WHY WE'RE IMPORTANT
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bandera County exists,
"To inspire all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens."
We accomplish this mission by working hard on our three outcome areas - Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship and Healthy Lifestyles with youth ages 6 - 18.
BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF BANDERA COUNTY
is proud to be a part of the national Boys & Girls Clubs Movement to make a difference with the youth in our communities.
The educational, athletic, artistic, social, and technical opportunities and lessons provided by
the BGC of Bandera County are countless.
From gardening classes, to teaching teens basic plumbing skills, art classes, outdoor activities, sports, homework assistance, drama classes, and Fun Fridays, to visits from local volunteers such as Officer Sandra, Ranger Leanie, or the Frontier Times Museum, and more!
Working alongside partner agencies like Sylvan Learning, we are able to offer tutoring classes to Club members. Our partnership with the San Antonio Spurs allows us to bring Bandera County BGC Sports to our local youth, a valuable instructional league for kids learning their sport. We strive to bring the best programming possible to the youth of Bandera County!
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bandera take Character and Leadership serious, and provide many opportunities for our young leaders through Club events such as Youth of the Year. Members who have been Member of the Month have an opportunity to become Youth of the Year through hard work and dedication, and can move on to become the national Youth of the Year.
The Torch Club is another leadership program at the BGC that develops young leaders and teaches them board elections and procedure. The Club also offers SMARTKids, SMARTGirls, SMARTMoves, Passport to Manhood, and other Project Learn lessons designed to teach important life skills and develops leadership qualities. Our young leaders grow exponentially through these experiences and we are happy to have strong support from the Bandera community and our local sponsors to make these opportunities possible.
In a national survey of Club alumni, 90% of Club alumni graduated! Every Boys & Girls Club nationwide offers Power Hour homework assistance time to our Club members after school. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bandera County have three sites, two of them located at local schools, allowing us to work closely with student's teachers and help our Club members keep their grades on track.
The BGC Alkek Unit participates in the Texas AIM Mentee program, which provides mentorship through Club staff, helping Club members more closely with their academic goals and with advice on life goals in general. The BGC of Bandera County cares about the future our youth are building for themselves and for Bandera County, and we aim to assist them in achieving positive outcomes!
